I lived in Duluth for five years and I still can’t believe I never visited the beautiful Enger Tower that entire time. After moving away I discovered the touristy portions of Duluth when I would come back and visit in the years that followed. One of my favorite places to visit has to be Enger Tower. I had always seen pictures of people visiting and this park provides the most stunning views of the city and perfect photo opportunities no matter the time of year. As one if not the highest point of Duluth you feel although you’ve reached the heavens and are glancing out across the world feeling completely at peace while being filled with a sense of adventure and wonder all at the same time.

Built in 1939, Enger Tower is a five story tower over looking the most of Duluth and its harbor. The green beacon mounted at the very top of the western Duluth hillside brings it to 531′ above the level of Lake Superior and with several look outs throughout the tower you are guaranteed a perfect view at all times.

Enger has more to offer than just a pretty look out. It also includes a park which allows grilling and provides the perfect spot for barbecuing and picnic gatherings. You can wonder through their beautiful Japanese style gardens complete with pagodas, rock gardens and a peace bell.

If you’re looking for something a little more active there is always the beautiful Enger Park Golf Course.

“Enger Park treats golfers to enjoyable experiences and breathtaking views of Duluth Harbor. Built in 1927 near the historic Enger Park Tower, the 27-hole course features three, distinct parkland-, links- and traditional-style layouts.
Ranging from 3,168 to 3,359 yards, the par-36, “Front 9,” “Middle 9” and “Back 9” presents golfers with distinct experiences as several holes run through densely wooded areas while others navigate around scenic ponds and strategic bunkers. Four sets of tees ensure fun but fair tests for all handicappers.”

Its easy to see why Enger draws such a crowd. Once you make it to the top you could happily spend all day there wandering the grounds. I make sure I never miss an opportunity to go and visit the park and surrounding areas any time I am in town. One of the best parts of visiting the park is the beautiful drive back down the hill along  Skyline Parkway . This by far has some of the best views and fanciest houses in Duluth.
