Brush Cleaning Experiments

If you’re anything like me you are constantly seeing posts on social media about the importance of cleaning your makeup brushes. But lets be real who has time for that!? Try as I might to avoid it, I really did want to see what all the fuss was about. The other day when I was at Ultra I came across a brush cleaning kit for a decent price, I couldn’t resist.

When I got home I did some research online and got to work. According to the instructions I saw online mix a little bit of water and the cleaner in the provided dish and swirl around with your brush using the textured bottom of the dish to clean any residual makeup out of your brushes. After trying this I was excited to see all the makeup coming out of my brushes as I scrubbed. I did replace the water and cleaner for every brush since the water was getting so dirty.

About halfway through my cleaning session I decided that the brushes weren’t getting as clean as I would like. I decided to try something else to get my brushes cleaner. Instead of using water and cleaner in the dish, I switched to using makeup remover. It instantly made a huge difference and my brushes were clean of every little bit of makeup.

My brushes had white tips again, something I thought I would never see again. After using the makeup remover to clean all my brushes I went back to using warm water and cleaner to get all the oil out of the brushes. Let them dry laying out on a towel and you are good to go.

Cleaning my brushes was such a satisfying experience. I can’t say if its made a difference in my daily makeup routine, but it was cool to see how much makeup I could clean out of them.
