Spooktacular-Spectacular

This week the Hunk gals hit up the opening night of the Minnesota Zoo’s Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular. This spooktacular adventure runs at the Minnesota Zoo from October 4th through Halloween. An enchanted forest, nestled in the heart of the Zoo, plays host to this strolling exhibit. This exhibit features over 5,000 illuminated pumpkins of all different shapes, sizes, and designs creatively carved and displayed. Everywhere you turn there are pumpkins stacked into topsy-turvy towers and dangling from every branch.  A variety of music and fog make the perfect backdrop to give you all the Halloween vibes.

My tips for taking on this year’s Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular

Keep in mind this is written for visitors trying to avoid the family crowds.

Tip# 1
Try going later in the evening on a school night
8 or 9 on a Wednesday is perfect if you want to avoid the stroller/family crowds.

Tip# 2
Sunday-Thursday are value nights
Tickets $15/ticket vs. $18 ticket price on Fridays & Saturdays

Tip# 3
Wear comfy shoes
It is a bit of a walk, maybe a mile or slightly less before the pumpkin trail starts.

Tip#4
You might stay warmer than you think
Yes, the trail is outdoors but once you are on the trail it is pretty wooded which blocks the wind so it’s not as cold.

Tip#5
Brave the elements
The event does happen rain or shine. If it is sprinkling all you need is a hat and extra scarf to stay warm and the crowds will be much thinner. Be polite and leave the umbrellas at home if you can (I know this might be asking a lot), they will be blocking the view of other adventurers.

Tip# 6
Booze Boos
There are stands for snacks and adult beverages at the beginning and end of the trail consisting of numerous beers, cider, and wine options. And these killer bartenders fill mammoth sized cups to the brim with draft pours.

This year’s Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular at the Minnesota Zoo was one for the books. This may be the making of a new favorite Halloween tradition for the Hunks. I can’t recommend this exhibit enough, check it out before carving your own pumpkins for some serious inspiration. For more information, you check out the official website here.
